Sept 30: new photos!

hola amigos! and sorry pat for not posting these tasty pics of jean earlier. :)

so this past weekend i got to stop in at scott's garage and check up on jean.
she just got her a-arms powder coated, along with her sub-frame getting powder coated as well! they did an exceptional job on the coating! it goes great with the black motor! (pat wishes he could see it in person!)

enjoy. ** please clink on the photos, they get larger for better viewing! **

- new hotchkis springs, and powder coated parts. sexy mama. (all new hardware, including nuts and bolts)

another front shot:

check out the clean new hardware. (cleaner than even the swankiest of hotel beds - you get the joke right?)

here is the power steering unit. it has been modified to have tension in the steering feel. this makes it feel more like an audi than a lincoln continental. (remember riding in grandpa and grandma's lincoln and puking your guts out because you were in a 6,000lb. cloud drifting down the road?)

check out the mounting plate on the headers where i circled in red. twice the thickness & strength of other headers. hand made from southern cali! they are also ceramic coated. scott goes in and puts in small concave divets near the bolt areas where the pipe comes close to the wrenching area. this is for future ease. :)

we decided to keep the old valve covers on to add to the incredible amount of soul this white girl has.

here's a blurry shot of the rear bell housing: its been dialed-in to .02" tolerance -- at this point i know that i had the "deer-in-the-headlights" look going while talking with scott... but it's all very dialed-in with a tad set for after break-in.

jean also got a new big-block radiator (even tho she's a small block - barely).

the next time pat fly's out to the left coast here, he'll be taking delivery of jean! i'll post pics of the break-in day, and possible martinis at "the top of the mark" hotel in SF. after we do the break-in weekend that should have at least 500 miles on, pat fly's home till we start the trip in november.

see you very soon.

august 10: out with "old busted" and in with "new hotness"

(men in black movie ref.)

** disclaimer**
i'm sorry these write up s are so f-ing cheesy. i get all excited and shit... ;)

today i rented a truck and drove that f'ing giant tank down to the south bay to pick up pat's old motor and tranny. (no, not an ex-girlfriend) ;)

after stressing for a few days on where the hell am i gonna find a coupla' dudes to help me lift this motor to the ground from a truck was on the brain.

our good friends jon lowden and long time honey suki showed up and wilder my riding bud (fellow sport bike rider) in my pacifica neighborhood here showed to offer a hand. cold beers were being had 45 seconds later. thank you sincerely jon, suki, and wilder.
(wanted to avoid hiring mexican laborers - just out of conversation alone. i watch hockey. ;)

some photos du' jour:

old guts:

bye bye. :) this motor is actually fine. its got a great distributor, intake manifold, water pump, and inside. it makes power and runs clean. its slightly bummed that it has been out-done by a sexier and more wicked model, but has also recently discovered that it's all about the bigger picture and that things will go in a positive way. so all in all i get to rest at night knowing that the old motor will be adopted by a happy young youth of male odor and ambition. although i might tell it that it might end up in a 1984 sunbird, just to get it all fired up before it goes away.

all in all, a great way to spend a sunday. chatting up a fellow car buff while we load the engine and tranny into the truck, lighting a nice cigar for the ride home in the rental truck. (wink)
seeing old friends and new friends over a beer in the sunshine after motor was unloaded.
priceless.

july 13th: the delivery of Jean to the builder!

whew... what a weekend! (with late nights mind you!)
we finally took "Jean" to scott jones, the builder in campbell, cali. (south bay)

shower time! "Jean" gets her first steaming hot shower before she goes into surgery: (this place was a bit eerie and surreal)

here's jean going into the hospital, to get new heart and lungs and some lipo.

the BIG hand-off! just seeing this made for some very excited pants!

here are some other shots from the garage:

here is the tranny!! the TKO600! 5 speed manual, rated at 600 HP!!! along with the package came a ton of corresponding parts.

and the final of yesterday, a picture i personally like to call: "lucky bastard"!

july 7th: the audio system!

as of tuesday the 8th of july, all parts will have arrived for the monster to speak!
"Jean" will have a killer sound system using a modern vintage head unit. (classic camaro stereo with modern processing)

- front speakers: new 6" MB Quart 'Discus' component speakers (separate mount titanium tweets)

- back speakers: are 6" MB Quart Discus' coaxials hidden in the rear deck. (4ohm)

- subwoofer: 10" MB Quart 600 watts (4 ohm)

- amps: front and rear lanzar speaker amp 4ch / 1600 watts (4 ohm) MOSFET class "A" power.

- amps: lanzar subwoofer amp: 600 watts (4 ohm) MOSFET class "A" power.

the system should be pretty punchy. i was hesitant to do a 10" subwoofer driver (as 2-8" subs can punch violently), but thought we're going to get enough punch from the 4-6" drivers mounted around the car as it is. so the 10" will fill out a deep bottom end like a 9 layer chocolate cake!

here are the rears. the tweets are set-in the main driver. all of this system will be discretely mounted so you can't see it anywhere. i might just have the tweeters show and that's it. just to play with the eyeball. the subwoofer and final amp will come tomorrow. i'll post then.
